My ‘Why’

Matthew 22:14, “Many are called but few are chosen.”

Traveling has always been a part of my life. It has widened my worldview and made me realize there is much more out there than just my backyard. Traveling has made me appreciate everything life has to offer.

Growing up, I was very fortunate and had many opportunities to experience the world in ways that others may not have. Due to this, I knew giving back was something I wanted to do each and every day. After this realization, I started to reflect about the reasons behind my “why”. Now, let me offer you this time to reflect as well.

Truthfully, have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror and realized something was missing? No, I’m not talking about a missing pimple, an ingrown hair, etc. Because that was me.

One night, I looked deeply within myself and saw something missing in my life. This confused me because I was content with my job and the direction I was going in. I texted my mom, “I think I am having a midlife crisis.” Of course she replied, “You’re too young to have a midlife crisis.” “Mom, I need a change in my life. I love what I’m doing right now but it’s not enough for me.” This conversation started me on the path to realizing I needed to make a change.

I am 23 years old and was already feeling comfortable and content. With so many goals that I want to accomplish in life, I felt that was something I shouldn’t be feeling until I’m older. I told my mom that night that I needed change. In that moment, I knew I was destined for something larger than myself. I knew and felt that I had the potential to serve a bigger purpose in life. Not even hours later, I texted my mom. “A mission trip, that is what I need.” This is when I knew I was called. It just so happened that my mom knew about the non-profit organization, Adventures in Mission.

I’ll be honest too, when the Lord called me, I knew I had to do it. Leaving my job, family and friends wasn’t a fear of mine. Instead, it was exciting because I needed this for myself. I not only wanted but needed to grow closer with my faith. That has been something I have been missing for awhile now.

Within the span of 3 weeks, I was called, I applied, I got accepted, it was real.

I could go on and on, and would love to share my story with you. If you have any questions, please reach out.
